The Ending - The fellowship heads to the
Mines of Moria to escape the blizzrd. The mines, once the
home of Gimli's brethren, has been taken over by goblins.
The fellowship finds the tomb of Gimli's relative and are forced
to fight the goblins and a cave troll. They defeat the
troll and the goblins and make for the exit at the other end of
the mine. A balrog chases after them. Gandalf faces
off against the balrog while the rest of the fellowship
escapes. Gandolf defeats the balrog, but is pulled down
the pit by the falling balrog. The fellowship finds
sanctuary with Galadriel, the Lady of the Woods, and
rests. Frodo meets with Galadriel, who shows Frodo that
evil will take over Middle Earth if he fails to destroy the
ring. She also warns him that someone in the fellowship
will try to take the ring from him. The fellowship heads
out the next day along the river Anduin. While resting on
the shores, Boromir tries to take the ring from Frodo, but Frodo
is able to escape by putting on the ring and becoming
invisible. The fellowship faces off against a bunch of
orcs and ends up killing most of them. Boromir is killed
by the head orc. Aragorn kills the head orc after a long
battle. Merry and Pippin are captured by the remaining
orcs, who then leave. Frodo and Sam leave on their own for
Mordor. Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli regroup and chase after
the orcs.

The Ending - After reuniting with Gandalf
the White, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli head to Rohan where the
king has been possessed by Saruman. Gandalf frees King
Theoden of Saruman's curse (and in the process alerting Saruman
to Gandalf's return). Warned about Saruman's army, Theoden
orders Rohan to be abandoned and everyone moved to the fortress
of Helm's Deep. Gandalf heads out to find the Riders of
Rohan to help with the defense of Helm's Deep. During the
journey the people of Rohan are attacked by orcs. When the
battle's over, Aragorn is forced off a cliff and presumed
killed. It turns out the Aragorn survived, and he makes it
to Helm's Deep (which makes Eowyn - the king's daughter - VERY
happy), but he sees Saruman's army along the way, which numbers
in the tens of thousands. Meanwhile, Frodo and Sam are led
to Mordor by Gollum, who apparently was a hobbit named Smeagol
before the ring drove him insane. Smeagol believes that
Frodo is his friend and is helping Sam and Frodo, while Gollum -
another personality - tries to convince his other
"self" to kill Frodo (the conversations Gollum/smeagol
have with each other are awesome). The three see some of
Mordor's army in the valley below them and then watch as the
army is wiped out by a band of men. Gollum runs, but Sam
and Frodo are captured by the men. It turns out that the
men are from Gondor and are led by Faramir, brother of Boromir.
Faramir tricks Frodo into helping him capture Gollum, then
discovers that Frodo has the ring. He takes Frodo, Sam and
Gollum to Osgiliath, a city that borders Mordor and is under
attack by Sauron's army, with plans to take the ring. Back
at Helm's Deep, just before the war starts, an army of elves
arrives to help fight Saruman's forces. While the Battle
of Helm's Deep begins, Pippin and Merry try to convince
Treebeard and his fellow Ents to join the battle against Sauron.
Initially, they don't, but once Treebeard sees what Saruman has
done to his forest, he calls on the other Ents and they attack
Isengard. The rest of the movie is essentially one big
war. The Battle of Helm's Deep rages on with the orcs
advancing past the fortress's defenses. The battle in
Osgiliath continues between Sauron's forces and the men of
Gondor, and Isengard is under attack by a bunch of 50 foot
trees. The Ents defeat Saruman by destroying his
fortress. The Battle of Helm's Deep is won when Gandalf
and the Riders of Rohan attack the orcs from the rear just as
the orcs were about to overtake the fortress. Faramir
releases Frodo, Sam and Gollum to destroy the ring after Sam
tells Faramir how his brother died. The movie ends with
Gollum convincing Smeagol that Frodo can't be trusted and he's
going to kill Frodo and Sam.
