The Ending - HAL kills the crew by
shutting down the life support systems while the crew is in
stasis. Dave is the only crewmember to survive because he
was in the pod outside of the Discovery when HAL cut the life
support. When HAL refuses to let Dave back onto the ship
because while it couldn't hear Dave speaking, it was able to
read his lips that Dave was going to shut HAL down. Dave
manages to re-enter the Discovery through an emergency
hatch and shuts HAL down. Before HAL goes offline, Dave
sees a prerecorded message from Earth stating the reason for the
mission to Jupiter: a huge monolith that proves the existence of
extraterrestrial life is somewhere near Jupiter. Dave
eventually makes contact with the monolith.

The Ending - The snuff film turns out to
be real. Max California is killed by Machine, who then
tries to kill Tom Welles. Tom manages to turn the tide and
kills Dino Velvet, but Machine escapes. Tom is able to
learn who Machine is and heads to Machine's home to kill
him. Tom sneaks into the house, but Machine is able to
sneak up on him. They fight all over the house and
eventually end up in an adjacent graveyard. Machine is
unmasked and it turns out that he's just a 40-something, balding
guy. Tom kills Machine. Tom meets with Mrs.
Christian to close out the case. Mrs. Christian commits
suicide once Tom leaves. Tom informs Janet Mathews that
her daughter is dead and that the perpetrators have been dealt
with.
